Development of recreation facilities in Waukee has not kept pace with the growth of the community and the school district. In fact, the lack of facilities has put many youth sports programs at risk. The City of Waukee is working to develop a plan for a Recreational Complex, however, community support is necessary to ensure the project is funded and that it moves forward quickly.
The GET WYRD Campaign was created by a group of concerned citizens, parents and coaches to garner support for this project and to assist with development of the plan to meet the needs of our community before programs are cancelled due to lack of facilities.
Our mission:is to support the health and well being of all Waukee residents and particularly children living in Waukee and/or attending Waukee schools by ensuring there are adequate facilities to support athletic and recreational programs in our community.
Our goals: are to collaborate with all interested parties and stakeholders to:
help identify needs for youth and adult recreation
assist with development of a plan to meet those needs
educate community members about the plans
help raise funds in support of this important project
ensure swift implementation of the plan to ensure that children living or attending school in our community have adequate facilities for recreational activities
